National Initiatives

Continental Societies, Inc. mandates two programs for national participation: Asthma Awareness and Literacy. Each chapter is required to create an activity which brings information to the community.

ASTHMA
This year Continentals collaborated with the University of Montana and the Environmental Protection Agency. This collaboration will allow a more extensive program delivery. All of our children in all chapters will be able to obtain free materials on asthma from EPA and utilize the Native Air program from the University of Montana. In addition, chapters have patterned with Meridian Health. Nurses and health professionals provided an asthma program in communities in Monmouth and Ocean Counties in New Jersey.

LITERACY
Chapters across the country found ways to increase literacy. Chapters across the country participated in the African American Read-In and the Cat-In-the Hat reading day. The United States Department of Education tapped the Continentals and five other organizations participating in a reading program as part of their "Leave No Child Behind" effort.

Continentals are committed to providing children in our schools and communities the best quality programming in the areas of health, education, employment, recreation, arts & humanities. Chapters partner with schools and youth centers encouraging and guiding the youth to designing and developing their educational and life paths.
